LA Guitar Rig Specialist Recommends EBS Pedals to Guitarists!
We first came across the work of Dave Phillips at LA Sound Design through some Youtube videos showing pedal boards built by Dave that all had an EBS DynaVerb on them. After some emailing back and forth Dave revealed he’s a big fan of EBS pedals. We decided to go visit him while we where in LA for the NAMM Show 2012.
It doesn’t have to be a bad sign when a place is really hard to find, and you can never guess what’s going on behind the door even if you stand right outside it. With Dave Phillips and LA Sound Design, that means he is so well known in the area for his work on guitar rigs and pedal boards he doesn’t even need to put a sign up to get busy with work! We only needed to drop the name “LA Sound Design” while visiting a few backline companies and rehearsal complexes around LA to get it confirmed, and right before we stepped in to his workshop, one of Viv Campbells guitar rigs arrived for some treat, while some rigs for Steely Dan went out the door – so if anyone had doubts – these guys knows their stuff! If you’re still not convinced? Check their client list…
“The EBS Dynaverb is the best reverb pedal I have heard. It sounds like a rack piece. Spatially beautiful” says Dave when explaining why he recommends a pedal made for bass players to his guitarist clients. Another rather unique feature that drew Dave’s attention from the beginning is the benefit of having stereo input, as well as stereo out, which is rare on reverb pedals. Dave explained further that he recommends the EBS DynaVerb to any customer that need a reverb pedal, and he just started to look into more of EBS pedals too.
On what they do at LA Sound Design, Dave quotes the info revealed on their website, “our goal is to provide precise, professional work done in a courteous and timely manner. We will help the client in finding their unique voice and tone through the selection of the equipment, the wiring and configuration, and application consultation. We offer custom pedalboard wiring, custom rack wiring, amp repair and mods and a showroom featuring boutique instruments, amps and pedals.” Visit them at www.lasounddesign.com

Hints! Fine tuning EBS pedals for guitar!
Did you know that several of the EBS Black Label Pedals (especially the true bypass version) have the possibility of being fine tuned? These features could be really useful for guitarists, since the pedals are tuned to suit bass from the factory. The fine tuning controls are accessed by removing the bottom plate. Information about these features are always described in the manual.
Here’s a list of pedals that have this feature, and a link to Download the manuals for hands-on instructions:
